Bass Guitars

We like to think of the BBZGuitars’ range of bass guitars as small but very carefully selected. In putting our collection together we’ve incorporated what we consider are some of the best products on the market, from luthiers Italia, St Blues and Vintage (JHS). If you’d like to view any of our basses online you can do so by clicking on this link for BBZGuitars Shop. Alternatively, if you prefer to shop in person, a warm welcome awaits you at our Buckinghamshire guitar showroom in High Wycombe.

Italia basses are a breed apart, with their retro styling and a wide range of body shapes, finishes and pickup options. Designed from scratch by Trevor Wilkinson, Italia basses have caused a stir in the market, offering great rock, blues, jazz and pop tones. We endeavour to keep a few of these basses in stock, but they do tend to move quickly. Check out the piezo pickup-loaded Maranello Z Bass, the Rimini Bass with mini humbuckers, as used by the Kaiser Chiefs, and other great innovations like the Modula with individual lipstick pickups for each string and the Mondial with a large EB3 type humbucker at the neck and a piezo (with separate EQ and volume) under the bridge. We think that the Italia basses offer something different in styling and specification whilst remaining great value for money.

St. Blues guitars have their component parts made in Korea then shipped to Memphis TN to be finished, set-up and distributed. St Blues only produces one bass model, but what a bass it is. The King Blues Bass is reminiscent of another USA luthier’s in California, but is slightly different in size and the body has been shaped for improved comfort. That coupled with a hybrid J and P configuration of the pickups and the fabulous looks highlighted with ivoroid body-binding, the King Blues Bass is a winner for pretty much any type of music. We think it looks best in Black, but there’s a good choice of finishes available for the discerning player.

Vintage by JHS has, under the guidance of Trevor Wilkinson, produced a great range of basses for every style of player. You’ll see these basses being used by professionals on TV, all the time which, considering their price tag, speaks volumes for their build quality, playability and gigability. Vintage offers left and right handed models of its basses, many of which are ‘inspired by’ super-brands, like Fender, Warwick, Ernie Ball Musicman and others.

The build quality, choice of woods and tone you can get from these instruments is incredible, especially since they start at a jaw dropping price of well under £200. From beginner to professional and everywhere in-between, Trevor and JHS have made a bass that fits; we think they’re well worth checking out and should be seriously considered when buying your first bass, upgrading your existing one or just adding to your collection.

Visit us at our Bucks guitar showroom where you can test drive any of these great basses in comfortable and friendly surroundings or view our range online at BBZGuitars Shop.
