MOST GUITARISTS WOULD BUY A SUPER-BRAND COPY IF THE PRICE WAS RIGHT
BBZGuitars
survey also finds Vintage® ‘inspired by’ guitars amongst top-ten makes owned
in the UK
9 June, 2008 - Latest findings from guitar research, commissioned by BBZGuitars of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, show that 78% of UK guitarists would consider purchasing a copy of their favourite super-brand guitar – particularly where makes like Gibson, PRS or Fender guitars are concerned – if the price was low enough. These results are backed by further findings from the study, which reveal that ‘inspired by’ guitars from the John Hornby Skewes (JHS) Vintage range feature amongst the top-ten guitar makes owned in the UK.
The JHS Vintage Icon series is popular for many of its designs, including those inspired by the famous ‘axes’ of guitar and bass heroes such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Jaco Pastorius. In addition, the company’s portfolio of acoustic and electric guitars - the Vintage and Vintage Advance series - are also gigged by a number of professional musicians, including Geoff Whitehorn, Birdy, Gwyn Ashton, Robbie Gladwell (aka Dr Robert), Roy Fulton, Bernie Torme, (Big) John McCoy, Mik and Trevor from K.O. Kane and Chris and Dan from Craine.
Steve Busby, MD of Bucks based BBZGuitars, which stocks the complete Vintage range, attributes much of the popularity of the make to its quality and value for money.
“People often come into BBZGuitars showroom looking for Fenders and Gibsons,” said Busby. “Although I’m not a main dealer for those brands I do sometimes have a few second hand models in stock but typically, once a customer has tried out the Vintage guitars they tend to struggle to justify the additional expenditure for a super-badge.”
Busby also believes that Vintage guitars are excellent for gigging musicians, he continued, “When you’re playing regularly at live venues, the chances of damaging your equipment are greatly increased. If you’ve spent over a thousand pounds on a guitar, you’ll be really choked if that happens, and whilst you may not want to damage a two or three hundred pound guitar either, it’s a much easier pill to swallow.”
The Vintage, Vintage Advance and Vintage Icon series guitars are available for test-drive and viewing at the BBZGuitars showroom in High Wycombe. The showroom is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00am - 5.30pm, and is located at Unit 10 Cressex Enterprise Centre, Lincoln Road, High Wycombe, HP12 3RL.
