15 January, 2008 - BBZGuitars, the High Wycombe based guitar specialist, has launched its second-hand guitar sales with a 1988 Fender Telecaster, at £455, and a 1974 CSL Les Paul copy at £275.
Fender Telecaster
The Japanese-made Fender Telecaster guitar was produced c. 1988 and features a ‘Popcorn’ blonde body with maple neck (skunk stripe) and maple fingerboard. The guitar has incurred some minor knocks but nothing that impairs its playability, tone or value as an investment. With a top-loader bridge, as on the original Nocasters and Esquires, it has the most ‘twang’ ever heard from a Telecaster and offers good sustain as well. The pickups and hardware look original and all work well; the pickups are especially well voiced. The telecaster comes with a lined, fitted hard case.
Fans of Peter Green will also be pleased to know that the famous guitar hero has the same model in his collection, although his version features a black scratchguard; BBZGuitars can source all replacement parts required to customize the guitar.
CSL Les Paul copy
An original CSL guitar, the Les Paul copy is presented in excellent condition. It has no visible serial number, a common feature of this model, but has ‘Made in Japan’ stamped on the neckplate and an ‘open book’ headstock, which determines its vintage around 1974. The top of the guitar is in ‘mint’ condition; there is a slight buckle rash on the back and a couple of minor grazes. Its ‘Tobacco Burst’ finish has aged to give it a striking appearance. The guitar's traditional twin humbuckers are well voiced and it has original metal tulip tuners. As with most Japanese Les Paul copies of the time, it features the so-called ‘lawsuit’ headstock (open book) and a bolt-on neck. The body of the guitar is believed to be mahogany due to its weight and great sustain. According to BBZGuitars managing director, Steve Busby, Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page), Free (Paul Kossoff) or Slash fans who are looking for a 'collectible' with a bit of history, a great sound and an affordable price will not be disappointed with this guitar.
Both guitars are available for viewing at BBZGuitars’ showroom: 10 Cressex Enterprise Centre, Lincoln Road, High Wycombe, BUCKS, HP12 3RL.
The company also stocks an impressive range of new acoustic and electric guitars, including Gordon Smith, First Act, St. Blues, Italia and Vintage, Vintage Advance and Vintage Icon guitars.
In the first of many events planned, BBZGuitars will be hosting a Vintage Guitar Clinic, in association with John Hornby Skewes, on Wednesday 30 January at the Nag’s Head High Wycombe from 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale at £2 in advance from
