BBZGuitars offers vintage 1957 hofner president for £899 during june
29 May 2009 - BBZGuitars, the High Wycombe guitars specialist, has added a 1957 Hofner President (wide) Hollow Body Electric guitar to the collection of second-hand guitars on sale at its Buckinghamshire based guitar showroom. The guitar is available for the special price of £899 for one month only, during June 2009.
"Modern re-issue versions of the 57 Hofner President go for more than £2,000 and don't possess the feel or tone of this guitar," said Steve Busby, MD for BBZGuitars. "This is a great opportunity to get an original Hofner for less than the modern copy."
The Hofner President electric guitar, available from BBZGuitars, is in excellent condition and features a solid spruce Florentine cutaway hollow body, an archtop sound board with two f-holes, flamed solid back and sides, a chrome fan tailpiece, a rosewood fretboard, with the distinctive three dot-markers, and a tortoiseshell scratch plate.
Electrics-wise, the Hofner has two pickup selector switches with the original oval control panel which houses the two tones and two volume knobs. Unusually the volume pots were connected up by the factory to work backwards so an anti clock-wise turn increases the volume. Two wood encased single coil pickups, each differing in tone-range from the other, provide a wide variety of Rock and Roll, Blues and Jazz guitar tones. The neck has a deep D profile as was usual in the '50s and there is an 'H' bar strengthening the neck, rather than a truss rod. With just one strap button, BBZGuitars recommends using a 'Head Hugger' for the extra strap button as it provides a professional and secure solution.
Hofner originally manufactured the President in Blonde and Brunette models; the Hofner for sale at BBZGuitars is a Blonde and it has been set up for D'Addario Roundwound 11s and is strung accordingly; it also comes with a spare set of D'Addario Half round 11s, should they be preferred.
The Hofner comes complete with its original hard case which has taken a few knocks over the last 52 years, so is not pristine, and the leather handle has been replaced as the original has long since perished. A piece of history can be found inside the compartment of the hard case; the original 1950's jack lead with large barreled solderless ¼ inch jack plugs. The screening on the lead does not appreciate modern lighting and makes a lot of noise, however, with a length of modern instrument cable and a screw driver this should give the new owner another piece of history when using the guitar.
For customers wishing to test-drive the 1957 Hofner President, a visit to BBZGuitars High Wycombe guitar showroom in Bucks is recommended.
